About Vanilla Brothers
— Our Story, Our Farmers, Our Mission

The Brand Story
There is a moment, just before dawn, when the mist still sits low over the hillsides of Bali and the vanilla orchids begin to open their flowers. It lasts only a few hours. And in that brief window, a farmer climbs the trellis rows and pollinates each blossom by hand — one flower at a time.
That level of care, patience, and craft is what Vanilla Brothers was built to honour.
We are a European importer of premium organic vanilla and spices, sourced directly from the farming families of Bali and the Indonesian archipelago. We exist because we believe the people who grow the world’s finest ingredients deserve to be known, fairly compensated, and supported — and because we believe the people who cook with those ingredients deserve the very best quality available.

Our Story
Where Vanilla Brothers Began
Vanilla Brothers was founded on a simple but radical idea: what if you could remove every middleman between a Balinese vanilla farmer and a European kitchen?
No brokers. No commodity traders. No anonymous warehouses. Just a direct relationship — built on visits, conversations, shared meals, and mutual respect — that guarantees quality, transparency, and a fair price for the people who make it all possible.
What started as a personal passion for extraordinary spices grew into a dedicated import operation connecting Europe’s most discerning cooks, chefs, and food businesses with Indonesia’s finest single-origin produce. Every product we carry has been personally selected at source, and every farm we work with has been visited and vetted by our team.
Our Values
What We Stand For
Direct Trade — Not Just Fair Trade
Fair trade sets a floor. We go further. By buying directly from the farmers themselves, we ensure that the premium our customers pay reaches the people who earned it — not a chain of intermediaries. Our farmers receive above-market prices, long-term purchase commitments, and the security of knowing their harvest has a home.
Certified Organic — From Soil to Shelf
Every product we import is grown without synthetic pesticides, chemical fertilisers, or artificial treatments of any kind. Bali’s volcanic soils are extraordinarily fertile — they do not need chemical shortcuts. Our certification is not a marketing label. It is a reflection of how our farming partners have worked the land for generations.
Full Traceability — You Know Exactly What You’re Buying
We can tell you which farm your vanilla came from, which region it was grown in, and which curing method was used to develop its flavour. That level of transparency is rare in the spice trade. For us, it is non-negotiable.
Sustainable Communities — Long-Term Thinking
We are not interested in a transaction. We are invested in the long-term prosperity of the communities we work with. A portion of every sale supports local infrastructure, education initiatives, and sustainable farming practices in the villages where our produce is grown. When Vanilla Brothers grows, our farmers grow with us.
Our Products
The Finest Spices Indonesia Has to Offer
Bali is one of the most biodiverse islands on earth. Its combination of volcanic soil, tropical climate, high altitude, and centuries of agricultural tradition produces spices of extraordinary complexity and depth. Our catalog is a carefully curated selection of what this remarkable island — and its surrounding archipelago — does best:
- Vanilla Pods — Grade A Vanilla planifolia, plump, moist, and intensely aromatic
- Vanilla Powder — Ground from whole cured pods, pure and additive-free
- Vanilla Extract — Traditional cold-infused, no artificial flavourings
- Indonesian Spices — Cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, and more from the world’s original Spice Islands
Every product is imported in small, carefully managed batches to guarantee freshness, preserve quality, and maintain the direct relationships that make our supply chain possible.
Our Farmers
The People Behind Every Pod
The heart of Vanilla Brothers is not a warehouse, a website, or a brand. It is a network of extraordinary farming families across Bali and Indonesia who have dedicated their lives to growing something remarkable.
These are smallholder farmers — many working plots of land that have been in their families for generations. They hand-pollinate every orchid flower, tend the vines through nine months of growth, and oversee a meticulous curing process that transforms a green pod into the dark, oil-rich vanilla your recipes deserve.
We visit our farms regularly. We know our farmers by name. We understand their challenges, celebrate their harvests, and share in the pride of what they produce. That personal relationship is the foundation of everything we do — and it is what makes the quality of our products impossible to replicate through conventional supply chains.
Why It Matters
The True Cost of Cheap Vanilla
The global vanilla market is opaque, exploitative, and driven by price speculation. Most vanilla sold in Europe has passed through four, five, or six sets of hands before reaching a consumer — each step adding cost while reducing quality and accountability. Farmers at the bottom of this chain are often paid a fraction of what their produce is worth, with no security, no visibility, and no relationship with the people who ultimately benefit from their work.
Vanilla Brothers is a direct response to that system.
Every order you place with us is a vote for a different way of doing things — one where quality is rewarded, provenance is transparent, and the people who grow your food can build a sustainable future from the value of their craft.
